TL;DR Inactive DSU capable iPhone's (5s, 5c, 6, 6 Plus) need a way to communicate to Sprint (either directly or thru a MVNO that resells SPRINT service) to be able to do #873283# in order to be able to recieve a 'Carrier Update' when a different carrier's SIM is inserted. After calling Sprint, and talking to International, and following their instructions (backup in iTunes, restore to factory, then restore from backup) with the promise iTunes will push the update to unlock, it did not work.So here is what I did today, after trying repeatedly on chat and on the phone.
I called Ting (MVNO for Sprint, basically re-sells Sprint service), gave them the MEID of my iPhone and the ICCID of the Sprint SIM and had them activate it on a new line on my Ting account.1. Ting CSR will say its been added then instruct you to power off device, wait 15 seconds then power on again.2. Dial ##UPDATE# (#873283#) and touch OK. It should say update successful.
(Mine wasn't, but I shut my phone off, waited a minute, then turned it back on and it worked).3. Pop in T-Mobile SIM (or AT&T or whatever) and the phone will say there is a Carrier Update, let it update. Aci software for mac windows. Quotefrom DEEE:Things you will need for active accounts:1. Before the ##update# or after the phone reboots and finds sprint signal and then swap gsm chip?
Is a reboot necessary after gsm insertion? Quotefrom yazyazoo:I have been trying to get my iPhone 5 unlocked also. I have only read one report of a Sprint user getting a iPhone 5 unlocked on the other thread by estacionsj. All other phones that I have seen unlocked domestically are the 4s, 5s, 5c and the 6's.I haven't seen another person with an iPhone 5 unlocked. Let me know if you see any other successful 5 unlocked.Thanks.i have contacted them a 3 times thru chat and twice thru calls. Well they did the international unlock.
How to install gentlemen of the row. It's just they won't do the domestic. I was out of contract and on sero and put my account on hold paying hte $8.99 month fee. Now I have to reactivate the account for the international unlock.
And then suspend my line again. At this point i'm getting tired of them and about to just cancel the whole entire account. Also they said that the unlock is still processing, so they know i didn't do the international unlock yet. Just gave them some BS excuse it didn't work. Quotefrom ghostofposterspast:So we need to have an active sprint account to unlock? I'm not thinking of an iphone which needs to have network access to unlock, I'm talking about other phones that don't.
We just need a MSL code. For example, ATT no longer requires you to have an ATT account. I have a few old Sprint world phones I'd love to get unlocked to make them usable again.See table/chart hereMSL code is for MSL unlock, and is only for CDMA devices when reprogramming for use on another CDMA carrier.
DSU (Domestic SIM Unlock) is pushed OTA to your phone. Sprint has to (as long as the MEID is free and clear, under no contract or financial obligations) submit the MEID of the phone, to Apple, then when that iPhone tries to authorize another domestic (USA) carrier's SIM, it will allow it if it is unlocked, hence Domestic SIM Unlock.Sprint iPhone 5s, 5c, 6 and 6 Plus are under the DSU column because all iPhones have all the bands for all the carriers (hence the same model number) except for Sprint iPhones, which are able to access a few LTE bands that are exclusive to Sprint.
